Considering what you have accomplished so far, what are your goals for the future?

My goals are less about personal accomplishments and more about industry evolvement. I want to be an inspiration and positive role model for youth culture, snowboarders and the action sports industry through a creative media approach that bridges meaning and motivational messages of personal possibility and faith.

Do you like the direction that the sport of snowboarding has gone in since you could remember?

In short, things evolve. Whether you are an idealist or a realist, there is not point in critiquing what is, just working for the change you want to see.

At what age did you start snowboarding? Were you on Ski’s first?

I was the second youngest person in Northern California to be skied down the slopes! At 8- months my dad had be zipped into a Jansport backpack, head wobbling and be bopping down the mountain. Less than a year later, I was on my own skis being guided with loving abandon down a bunny run. At age 12 I started snowboarding.

Family…What does it mean to you?

The better question is what doesn’t it mean. Family is everything to me.

Do you have any trips planned for the 13 season that you’re stoked about?

Yes, a honeymoon… or two.

What is something that a lot of people don’t know about you?

I’d like to answer that question with something witty, snarky or obscure. But the honest answer is I am pretty vulnerable and visible. There is nothing you can’t find out or I won’t tell you about my life. So in a long worded response, there isn’t anything people don’t know about me.

What were you doing for work before you went pro?

Working to be pro

How many days do you get to ride a year?

Tim Eddy's Childerness Spot

Tim Eddy is one of the most fun loving snowboarders we’ve ever met. He’s always smiling, laughing, and motivating others to have a good time. Lately he’s been skating, doing yoga, enjoying local hot springs, and “getting ready to rip the hell out of the slopes retreat!”. He recently acquired some land in Lake Tahoe and is creating his own CHILLDERNESS spot. Upon hearing this, we hit him up:

What was the motivation to acquire this land and build a cabin, rather than just get an apt in town?

Freedom! I just wanted to live the way that I wanted to live and be able to do the things I wanted to do. I always had a vision of living simple and living with minimal resources. Like Solar electricity, wood stove for heating and cooking, harvesting rain and snow for water, living in a small functional space where I don't have many things and it forces me to spend most of my time in the great outdoors. Also I wanted the freedom to build and create whatever I wanted. After the cabin, it's a concrete skatepark, zip-line, mtn bike course which will be a banked slalom rhythm course in the winter, garden, some animals and the list goes on.

Are you going to ride the resorts at all, or just ride your front/back yard?

I'm gonna rip all the peaks that I can whether it's chairlifts, splitboard, snowshoes, hover board, but there will always be radical sessions with the bros at the land. That will be a never ending project of stoke!

Has any wildlife visited you?

Yeah! This past spring we had a bear lurking around, tons of deer, coyotes, all kinds of birds, bats, hungry squirrels and raccoons. Oh yeah and a samsquantch. He's a distant cousin of sasquatch with antlers.

Are you putting in cable tv?

What other entertainment will you have? No cable tv, no internets, just books, music, cooking, chopping fire wood, stretching, talking, exploring, pondering, creating, and a whole lot of boardsports!

What makes you happy in life?

Life's a garden, dig it!

Adventures of Gray Thompson

Our National Am rider Gray Thompson just went on an adventure. Check out the story to his movie here:

This past week, I packed up my little Subaru with a bunch of snowboard stuff and my roommate, Curtis Woodman, and we hit the open road in search of good snow and good times. We pointed it East from Tahoe and made it to Big Sky, Montana in about 13 hours. In Big Sky we crammed into a hotel room with 8 other smelly dudes; Tim Eddy, Alex Yoder, Blake Paul, Kyle MIller, Tucker Andrews... it was wild. Big Sky hosted the Aaron Robinson Memorial Banked Slalom organized by our good friend Shane Stalling. Banked Slalom's sure are popular this year and this one was wild! Jason Robinson rode his brother Aaron's snowboard for the day and on his last run through the course clocked in at 11 seconds, half the time of everyone else's run. Supposedly the timer broke after J-Rob's run, but I like to think it was Aaron telling us to not take the contest seriously and just go have fun boarding with friends!

After a quick and wild night in Bozeman (In case you were wondering, yes, there are lots of babes in Montana) we grabbed our filmer Cameron Fair and headed through Yellowstone Park to Cooke City. We were welcomed to this tiny redneck sled-neck town by none other than Ms. Montana as she was the bar tender at the local beer grounds. The next few days consisted of waking up before the sun, gassing up sleds, driving half way to a zone before multiple snowmobiles decided to breakdown, dealing with them, and finally getting to snowboard in the late afternoon. I dedicated my first Pow line of the year to Aaron and man, was it glorious!

Overall the trip was amazing. Finally rode powder for the first time of the season, logged a few clips, saw some amazing country, met some really great people, and fell in love with Montana. If you ever are feeling the urge to hone in on your man skills, head to Montana, the true wild, wild west.

Episode 16 chronicles Nick Visconti and friends shredding in France for a Japan Relief Fundraiser called Kumi Yama. When asked to sum up the latest Dangerzone installment Nick said, "No French kisses, but hella French sickness!" 'Nuff said. Enjoy!

As far as we're concerned, snowboarding is all about having a good time with friends. It's not about being the best, hucking quadruple corks, or competing in made-for-tv contests. In Episode 12, Nick takes us on a super fun top-to-bottom lap on a cold, icy day at Northstar. Nothing fancy, just good old fashioned snow shreddin' - with a healthy dose of jibbing, of course!

Since 1937 is a good old-fashioned romp with the Dangerzone crew as the shred the pow pow in their backyards. It's all filmed in black and white because in their words, "we haven't seen this much snow since color was invented," and that was a very very long time ago! Enjoy...

Even though it's mid-July and most of the country has been suffering through record-breaking heat and humidity for weeks now, there's still plenty of snow to be enjoyed at Windells Snowboard Camp.

The crew at ESPN Snowboarding spent the past week at Mt.
As Nick puts is, "The best part about Hood Life is shredding with your friends... in summer." That pretty much says it all right there.

Bright sunshine, soft spring snow and plenty of wallrides were served up all day. Spectators were treated to some high-quality, Grade-A snow shredding from a bunch of heavy hitters. When it was all said and done, Johnny Lazz stood high atop the podium in 2nd place. Congrats!

Our friends at ActionSportsNow.com recently caught up with Arnette's very own Johnny Lazz for an interview.

With an intro like this, you know it's a must read: "I met Johnny when he was like 15 years old at a house party in North Lake Tahoe where he stole all of my beer and then gave it out to everyone?!? Johnny had quite the reputation as a kid... I remember him shredding all over Northstar at Tahoe – jumping ropes, spraying people with slush and yelling at Ski Patrol when they had a problem with it." NICE!

Read up on the rest of Johnny's antics here, and check out his rail wizardry in the first half of the below ThirtyTwo "Spot Check" edit.

The 3rd and final stop of the Arnette Brain Freeze Team Launch Party Tour with Del the Funky Homosapien was nothing less than a full on barn burner. Del’s official DJ, Zac Hendrix, made a special guest appearance and got the crowd open with an eclectic mix of funk and soul, while Bukue One got the crowd warmed up for Sir DZL him self – DEL the Funky Homosapien. With Zac and Bukue backing him up, Del rocked the crowd with classics like Mr. Dobalina, At the Helm, Wack MC’s, and more recent cuts like Get it Right Now off his free Funkman album. The antics didn’t stop there… This party also celebrated Devun’s birthday. With his crew in tow we rolled out the birthday cake just in time for Dustin Cravin to dive into it face first and give Devun a frosting-filled birthday tackle. Cake was flying, FUNK was flowing, Whistler came out in full force to support – Thank you, and see you next time.

This year we were proud to sponsor one of the biggest and baddest snowboarding events in the USA, the RIDE Shakedown. The action was off the hook, but even better was the fact that our very own Johnny Lazz (of our National team) secured a third place finish amidst a stacked field of competition. Check out the video below, and for a full report head to Snowboarder Mag.

For the past decade the Ride Shakedown events have distinguished themselves amongst an overly crowded contest calendar by having the most innovative and rider friendly format on the competition circuit. By mandating that riders call their tricks before dropping and abstain from repeating moves the spectacle remains fresh and progressive with only the best riders reap the rewards.

On Friday March 18th, 2011 The Shakedown made its second appearance at The Summit-at-Snoqualmie, WA and in typical Northwest fashion it was damp. Yet the moist conditions didn’t deter the 40 riders in the invite only rail event from stepping up picking apart the two-feature setup. The lookers right of the course yielded a quad kink square bar while the left showcased a bloated round bar complete with a girthy donkey at the end. Two heats of 20 or so riders jammed nonstop for 45 minutes vying for a spot in the 8 man finals. Standouts like Dylan Alito, Garret Warnick, Seth Hill and Yale Cousino set down some of the best tricks of the night but they lacked the consistency and panache of the eventual finalists.

The RIDE Shakedown Returns for Round 2 at The Summit at Snoqualmie
Pros and Ams alike prepare for the international snowboarding competition that will earn them $35,000 cash purse

Seattle, January 24, 2011 – This March, thousands will flock to the Summit at Snoqualmie, WA, to experience the second annual edition of the RIDE Shakedown, an international snowboarding competition now held in Canada, the U.S. and Germany. Keeping with its unique jump-to-rail jam contest format, both amateur and professional athletes will take to the course in an effort to win their share of the $35,000 purse.

Now a part of the Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour at the 4star level, the jam-style event held in Canada, Germany and the USA is known for its impressive urban rail features and 50-foot jump only unveiled to the athletes the day of the competition. The RIDE Shakedown is the only major snowboarding event that features a big air jump followed by a rail set up, in addition to the popular “jam format” competition that allows riders to choose their judged run.

The RIDE Shakedown draws snowboard fans and athletes alike by way of entertainment and adrenaline. Currently celebrating its 10th season in Canada, the event has attracted upwards of 20,000 spectators annually. Patryck Bernier and Brendan O’Dowd, founders of DIZZLE Entertainment and organizers of the RIDE Shakedown, say it’s quite the show, “it combines the entertainment of a festival with the intensity of a core competition while keeping it laid-back for the athletes. It’s fun for everyone, the audience is involved every step of the way. There’s the sponsor village filled with activities, a pro autograph session, and of course a top-notch snowboarding show –all for free.”

This intensity stems from the opportunity for amateurs to prove themselves and compete against professionals. Sebastien Toutant got his start at the age of 13 by winning the RIDE Shakedown as an amateur. The world-renown rider and two-time winner of the RIDE Shakedown will be competing at the U.S. edition of the RIDE Shakedown alongside many fellow RIDE team riders. ”

Tahoe’s own Nick Visconti is a cerebral snowboarder who creatively explores shredding through filming for Think Thank and producing online media segments for “Tahoe Dangerzone,” a video blog that documents his on-hill antics and experiments. Nick has a larger-than-life personality and unique style, and he is a dedicated skateboarder. When not holding it down in Tahoe, he can be found lurking in Venice Beach with the Arbor crew.

North Lake Tahoe’s Johnny Lazz is one of the funniest dudes you will ever meet. He is loud, super talkative and doesn’t give a f%#k what other people think. An all-terrain dominator who can slay backcountry lines and handrails equally well, Johnny loves to bend the rules and has been known to outrun ski patrol on more than one occasion.

A proud Vermonter with deep Killington roots, Niko Cioffi has a scrappy swagger and style all his own. He is a founding member of Rutland’s GBP crew, and over the past few years he has spent winters in Truckee riding and filming with the Forum team. With several impressive video parts already to his credit and a deep bag of tech tricks on lock, the future looks bright for this versatile Green Mountain shredder.

Tim Eddy is an Alpine Meadows local and total ripper. When the flakes are flying he spends his days in the backcountry dropping cliffs and carving out ridiculous lines. When summer rolls around he packs his bags and heads to High Cascade to keep the good times rollin’. A self-proclaimed foodie with a sweet tooth, Tim’s mellow demeanor and positive attitude make him an awesome guy to hang out with.

Norwegian powerhouse Alek Ostreng charged onto the scene a few years back and has been making noise ever since. A dedicated member of the Youngblood squad, Alek is a top competitor on the Winter Dew Tour and has been hard at work this season filming for the new Forum team video. Whether big air or slopestyle, Alek is always smooth as butter and can throw down with the best of ‘em.

Alex Tank is a Euro jibbing machine with a super clean style who kills parks and rails like nobody’s business. Arguably the best thing to come out of Germany since Heidi Klum and Oktoberfest, Alex rides with the Eye of the Tiger and absolutely destroys it every time he straps on his board.

Be on the lookout for Arnette’s snow team at a mountain near you as they will all be wearing the new Mercenary and Series 3 goggles, which are slated to hit shops Fall 2011.

For more information, check out: Facebook and Twitter.

Bonjuorno! Alek Oestreng was in Italy this week to eat some pasta, drink red wine, and win some damn contests. Successful on all accounts, Alek won the Burn River Jump and took Fourth Place in Slopestyle. Originally, he was announced a third place finish, but then got pushed back to fourth....WTF is up with European judging? Either Way, Alek still murdered it and we are so proud of him.

Earlier this month our AM team descended upon the Mammoth Mountain "Art Park" for a gnarly shred sesh headed by Snow Team Ambassador Robert "Sticky" Shaw. The level of riding was impressive, but more than that was the whole vibe of the crew being super mellow and laid back...everything riding with your friends should be all about anyways...right? Please sit back and enjoy this video, as well as Sticky's art that graces a few of the rails throughout the park. And, if you get the chance go hit them yourself!

Every year around this time, the best Snowboarders meet in Oslo, Norway for the TTR 6Star Oakley Arctic Challenge 2011. The event which is known for a progressive and riders driven slopestyle setup, invites only riders who have shown to have what it takes to be amongst the top TTR competitors. This year, the riders list includes names such as Seppe Smits, Torstein Horgmo, Mark McMorris, Ulrik Badertscher, Jamie Anderson, Kjersti Buaas, and our very own young-gun Sage Kotsenburg. Although Sage didn't win the event, as you can see from the video below it's only a matter of time, especially when you take into account the fact that he was one of the youngest riders ever to compete. We wanna send a huge Arnette shout out to Chas Guldemond who took home first, but remember Chas, our boy Sage is right behind you so you best be looking over your shoulder!

On Feb 10, Hyde Lounge in Mammoth Village was the backdrop for the second stop of the Arnette Brain Freeze Snowboard Team Launch Party to celebrate our team of Devun Walsh, Sage Kotsenburg, Zac Marben and Dustin Craven. If we thought Del the Funky Homosapien set the bar high in Denver...well then Hyde Lounge took things to an entirely new level. The place was packed wall to wall with a huge group of fans lined up outside waiting to see Sir DZL rock his set. Members of the Arnette AM team came through in full force with Snow Team Ambassador Sticky Shaw leading the charge. Arnette rider DJ Matty Mo got the crowd ready with some classic hip hop bangers, followed by Bukue One and Del, with vinyl connoisseur DJ Zac Hendricks closing the show with a flurry of rare cuts. Like a true man of the people, Del stuck around after his set to chop it up with fans who wanted to share a few words or take a picture. If you were lucky you snagged some of the limited edition swag that got tossed throughout the night. Another amazing event, and thanks to everyone who came out to support Arnette and DEL. Stay tuned for details on our final stop at Garfinkels in Whistler Village on March 12th.

The man of the hour, Del, not one to perform and bounce. This guy is truly amazing, and we're digging the fashion statement he's been making at our last couple of parties with the goggles. Trendsetter? Pretty soon peeps all over Oakland are gonna be rocking goggles instead of sunnies.

The European goggle launch party at ISPO last Sunday was a real success. Lots of people showed up to check out our new goggles and of course to party with free drinks and awesome music. It was actually a success that everyone partied until the securities showed up to shut it down. Who would have guessed that you needed a permission to throw a party in Germany?!? Our Yeti didn't and of course he didn't care so in the end the securities arrested the Yeti and the DJ. Anyways that didn't stop the party as the guests simply turned the sound on again after the securities were gone. You see, we had tons fun and have many more pics, check em out on Facebook.

Cab 1440 double cork…wtf?!! Seriously, this shit is getting ridiculous! Sage Kotsenburg stomped this frankly ridiculous trick in Saturday’s Air & Style. It’s the first one ever landed in competition, and it knocked out X Games gold medallist (and Air & Style China champion) Seb Toots. Cool? Well, check it out and judge for yourself…

Enjoy the moment: Kotsenburg just rides

AS REPORTED BY PARKRECORD.COM -

If Sage Kotsenburg expected to be as good as he is now, he surely doesn't admit it.

The 17-year-old Park City slopestyle snowboarder has a low-key, laid-back persona that seemingly carries over onto his numerous competition circuits.
"It's a whirlwind," said Kotsenburg.
Having lived in Park City for 13 years, he grew up snowboarding on the slopes of Park City Mountain Resort with his older brother, Blaze. At the age of five, he strapped into his first snowboard and by the age of seven he was competing.
Starting at age eight, he won every U.S. Snowboard Series event he enrolled in for the next four years. He made his U.S. Open slopestyle debut at the age of 12, and with each successive year, Kotsenburg has continued to improve and to turn heads.

"It definitely worked out, like crazy fast," he said. "Time seems to go by in the blink of an eye."

As the 2009-10 Winter Dew Tour men's slopestyle season came to an end, he found himself sitting at No. 1, finishing with a season-high in total points (260). With a Dew Cup in hand, he also took fifth place at the Winter X-Games a year ago and took a silver medal in the 2009-10 X-Games Europe. Kotsenburg is enjoying his blossoming career, and says there's no feeling comparable to competing at the Winter X-Games. He is salivating at the opportunity in the next couple months.

"It's just so epic," he said. "There's a super good vibe and you're like in superstar status. Dropping into that lip at the X-Games it's a really big rush."

So far this season on the Dew Tour, there's been one stop at Breckenridge, Colo., an event in which Kotsenburg struggled a bit.
He said he had a run of successful practices before the competition started. However, the course got dumped on by sticky snow on the last day of the competition and snow accumulated in the middle of many jumps.

"It just wasn't working out," he said. "I couldn't clear the jumps."

Kotsenburg finished 11th overall. But he is ready to get back on track when the tour stops in Killington, Vt., next weekend.

But life for the 17-year-old isn't always snowboarding; probably just 99 percent. Kotsenburg is home schooled and has only two more classes to finish before he graduates. Most of his friends attend Park City High School and when he's not soaring through the air, he can be found hanging out with friends.

When asked if the college path is in his near future, he addressed the question as if he'd never heard it before.

"Right now, I don't really feel I need to go to college," he said. "I'm just not rushing into it."

His focus on improving his snowboarding technique is simple: just work and try things that have never been tried.

"You have to learn tricks so fast," he said. "It's not only about having ability. It's not just a double-cork 360; it's something that's pretty heavy. It's scary trying to go that another 10 feet."

Being an innovator at 17 isn't easy. While it may look fairly easy, the technique and thought behind tricks should not be underestimated.

"You take one rotation, you multiply it and you just hope it works out," he said. "Once you know how to do something you'll be fine.
"It's almost like going in slow motion. You think you're going to die almost; it's like a rollercoaster."

Even having broken his wrist three different times, his collarbone twice (repaired with plates and screws), and a knee injury, the youngster is able to keep a smile going, knowing full well what he's able to do.
"It's funny how it all works," he said. "It's all good."
